Organization of the California State Society:

The first California organization meeting for Colonial Dames XVII Century was held in Los Angeles in 1948. In June 1949, 56 members met at the home of Mrs. George Kingman in Alhambra to elect officers and receive the charter. Mrs. French Harrington of Los Angeles was the Organizing State President.

Two chapter Organizing Presidents were appointed at the state meeting on October 23, 1949. Williamsburg (Los Angeles), Plymouth (Alhambra) and Sleepy Hollow (San Diego) Chapters were organized in close succession, receiving charters in 1950 and 1951. Other chapters have been organized in various cities since then.

California is a very large state and currently has 21 Chapters with over 600 members.
