Organization
of the Iowa State Society:
The IOWA SOCIETY COLONIAL DAMES XVIIC was organized
March 14, 1979.
SIOUAN HAWKEYE CHAPTER was the first organized in
Iowa, chartered March 29, 1975. It was founded by Dorothy Helmick
in Des Moines, Iowa. Currently 32 members.
GEORGE SOULE CHAPTER was chartered November 4,1978.
George Soule was a signer of the Mayflower compact aboard the Mayflower
November 19, 1620. He was the ancestor of organizing president,
Irma Paschen. They merged with Siouan Hawkeye Chapter in 2000.
JAMES TAYLOR CHAPTER chartered September 27, 1980
in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. James Taylor I was the ancestor of organizing
president, Marjorie Stoikovic, one sister and a niece. Currently
has 16 members.
THOMAS MUNSON CHAPTER chartered April 7, 1984. Captain
Munson provided the line that the Organizing president, Marjorie
Miller, three sisters and two nieces used for membership with 20
members. Currently has 13 members.
Pertinent Facts About the Iowa
State Society:
We have awarded both a Pocahontas and a General
Scholarship to students who attended Cedar Rapids and Iowa City
colleges and Simpson College.
We have members that served during World War II;
Myrtle van Dyke. Naval Armed Guard; Gertrude Pedersen, Army Nurse
Corp; Beverly Lindsey, Navy Nurse; and Maxine Ireland, who was in
Civil service for Naval Air Craft carriers, she inspected ships.

Historic Sites Marked in Iowa:
We marked with a plaque Iowa Wesleyan college in
Mt. Pleasant celebrating 150 years of being the first college west
of the Mississippi to be co-ed.
