Organization of the New York State
Society:
The New York State Society has seven chapters, Alice
Putnam founded in 1933; Long Island 1969; Captain Henry Hudson 1974;
Captain James Avery 1983; Elizabeth Winthrop 1984; Mohawk Valley
1985; Floris Willems Krom 1999.
The State Society was organized October 19, 1934
with four chapters, only one of which, Alice Putnam, is still active.
When three of the four chapters disbanded in 1961 the State Society
also had to disband.
Dorothy Bird Lord Chapter, organized in 1930 in
Jamestown, was the first chapter to form in the state. It was followed
by Alice Putnam in Buffalo, Priscilla Alden (1933, Ithaca) and Margaret
Mask (1934, New York City).
When Long Island Chapter chartered in 1969, the
State Society reorganized on October 14, 1970. Tyoga Gateway Chapter
was founded in 1973, disbanding in 1985. Jan Snedeker Chapter, Elmira,
was founded in 1974 and in 1977 was named Captain Henry Hudson.
Other chapters who were organized and later disbanded
were Seneca of Interlaken/Geneva founded 1976, disbanded 1985; Hannah
Eve1.eth Eayres of Bayport, 1977-1992; General Pierre Van Cortlandt
of Cortland, 1982-1999; Anna Van Rotmers Bradt of Albany, 1990-2001

New York State Society:

| Recognizing the exemplary community devotion
of the Historical Society of the Massapequas (HSM), the Long
Island Chapter of Colonial Dames XVII Century (CDXVIIC) dedicated
a marker placed on the western pillar supporting the church’s
porch roof, commending the preservation of the entire Old Grace
Church Complex, including the church, the grounds, the Floyd-Jones
Cemetery which contains the burial site of the first European
settlers, Maj. Thomas Jones (d.1713) and wife, Freelove Townsend
(d. 1726), the Floyd-Jones Cottage, a small splendidly restored
and furnished relic of early Massapequa, and the Floyd-Jones
Library, Massapequa’s first library complete with all
